Challenge

Uruguay’s National Tax Authority faced the challenge of improving the efficiency of a recurring operational process involving information exchanges between tax and customs systems.

The process relied heavily on manual work performed by specialized staff, including multiple validations and cross-system queries. This approach consumed significant operational time, introduced potential for human error, and limited the team’s ability to focus on higher-value analytical and oversight activities.

Solution

Quanam implemented an RPA-based automation solution using Microsoft Power Automate Desktop to handle the validations, data checks, and system interactions required for the process.

The automation replicates the steps previously performed by staff across several applications, executing them automatically with consistent logic and full traceability. By integrating existing systems and standardizing task execution, the bot ensures reliable and repeatable process outcomes.

Beyond the technical implementation, the project incorporated automation best practices and operational support to ensure smooth deployment, user adoption, and long-term process stability.

Benefits

The value behind the solution

Operational efficiency at scale

Automation significantly reduces the time required to execute repetitive operational tasks.

Improved reliability and consistency

Standardized automated execution minimizes human error and ensures consistent validation and processing across systems.

More capacity for higher-value work

Specialized staff can focus on analytical, supervisory, and strategic responsibilities that deliver greater institutional value.

Our methodology

The initiative followed a structured automation approach, combining detailed process discovery, iterative solution design, and controlled testing alongside DGI’s operational teams.

The rollout included production deployment support and post-implementation refinements, ensuring stable execution, smooth adoption by users, and measurable operational impact from the first automated runs.
