Challenge

DotFoods, a major food redistribution company in North America, relied on a highly reliable IBM i core platform to run its operations. While the system provided stability and transactional strength, its traditional interface limited the ability to quickly adapt and improve business processes.

Operational teams needed a faster way to digitize recurring workflows and improve internal user experiences without introducing risk to the company’s mission-critical systems.

The organization sought a way to modernize processes and accelerate delivery while keeping the core platform as the trusted system of record.

Solution

A process automation architecture based on low-code technology was introduced to rapidly design and deploy internal applications and digital workflows.

Through API-based integration with the core platform, the solution enables real-time access to operational data while orchestrating approvals, tasks, and business rules across multiple departments.

This approach allows teams to build and release new operational capabilities quickly, reducing development cycles while maintaining the integrity of the existing enterprise system.

Benefits

The value behind the solution

Faster delivery of
operational solutions

New workflows and internal applications can move from concept to production in weeks, enabling the organization to respond quickly to operational needs.

Greater business agility

Operational teams gain the flexibility to evolve processes and improve workflows without relying on lengthy traditional development cycles.

Legacy modernization without system replacement

The existing IBM i platform remains the transactional backbone of the business, while the automation layer enables continuous process improvement and a modern user experience.

Our methodology

The project was delivered using an agile implementation model focused on rapid iteration and continuous delivery.

Requirements were managed through a prioritized backlog in Jira, allowing teams to deliver incremental improvements in short development cycles and quickly bring new digital workflows into production.
