Quanam joins the discussion on Artificial Intelligence ethics in Uruguay

Quanam took part in the exploratory meeting toward the creation of the Business Council on Artificial Intelligence Ethics – Uruguay Chapter.

An initiative promoted by UNESCO, with the active participation of AGESIC, public-sector bodies, private companies, and international organizations.

The meeting, held at the Mercosur Building, brought together public and private sector stakeholders, multilateral development banks, and international organizations with the aim of exchanging perspectives and advancing the creation of a collaborative space to promote the responsible, ethical, and trustworthy use of artificial intelligence in Uruguay, aligned with international standards and national priorities. In this context, the initiative connects with UNESCO’s global AI ethics guidelines promoted worldwide.

During the session, participants worked across several key dimensions for the development of the initiative, including capabilities and training, business best practices, and governance. These discussions will serve as a foundation for the design of future Council activities. The contributions are currently being systematized as input for the next steps in the process and for follow-up sessions planned over the coming months.

Representing Quanam were José C. Nordmann, Chief Compliance Officer, with a focus on ethics and compliance; Guillermo Spinelli, Partner and CEO of Data & AI, contributing a business and AI adoption perspective; and Gustavo Mesa, Data Governance and Management Specialist, providing insight into data governance as the foundation for the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

Quanam’s participation in this initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to responsible innovation, technology development with positive impact, and the construction of trust frameworks for the adoption of advanced technologies. This approach is part of the company’s broader vision around advanced analytics and business-applied artificial intelligence, areas in which Quanam has built a strong track record across Latin America and globally.

Additional coordination meetings are expected to take place in the coming months, with the goal of moving toward the formal establishment of the Business Council on Artificial Intelligence Ethics in Uruguay and defining a 2026 work agenda.

Every utility finance team is being asked the same question this year: What are we doing with AI agents?

Utility demand stopped moving in a straight line, and planning has to catch up.

At the American Public Power Association (APPA) National Conference 2026 in Boston, this topic was present in many conversations: load growth, data centers, affordability, resource adequacy, capital planning, and the need to make better decisions under uncertainty.

Demand growth, data centers, electrification, aging infrastructure, resilience investments, equipment lead times, supply chain constraints, and affordability pressure are all moving at the same time.
